What is Undescended Testicles?

In Undescended Testicles an infant’s testes do not descend normally into the scrotum. Normally, the testicles initially appear in the infant’s abdomen just near the kidney level, later they begin to descend into the scrotum till the end of 8 weeks. Sometimes (UDT/ cryptorchidism is accompanied by other anamolies of rectum, anus, urinary, genital tracts. Premature babies and 1% of the male population face this syndrome.

Types & Causes Undescended-Testicles:

  • Abnormal fetal development.
  • Spina Bifida.
  • Hormonal disorders.
  • An injury/ shock to the genitalia, upper thighs, or lower abdomen of the child.

Symptoms of Undescended Testes:

  • Empty scrotum.
  • Inguinal lump.

Diagnosis Tests for Undescended Testes:

  • Physical Examination.
  • Reflexes checkup.

Treatment of Undescended Testes

Surgery between one to two years.

Risks:

Risk of infertility is 5%.

Prevention & Precaution is Better than Cure:

  • Regular check-up and tests.
  • Avoid touching the child’s lower abdomen, genitalia or upper thighs.
